Fall Share (Oct. 1, 8, and 15)

We're entering the fall season, which means this year's CSA is winding down. However, there is still an opportunity to purchase a pro-rated fall share. Normal cost for the fall share is $50.00, but you may call Marilyn Glenn at 913-367-2002 to find out what's still available.

The 2013 newsletters will soon be posted to the website.

Summer Goodness

If you've been following our Facebook page, you know this has been another successful year for our local CSA. And there is still time to sign up! The summer share ends Sept. 24, and you can join for a prorated amount. We also offer a $50 fall share, which begins Oct. 1 and lasts for three weeks.

Contact Marilyn Glenn at 913-367-2002, email us at atchisonareacsa@yahoo.com, or send us your registration form today!

There's Still Time!

We're halfway through the growing season, but you can still take advantage of a full or half share of locally-grown produce! There are eight weeks left, which means that full shares are now prorated at $240 and half shares at $140. Contact Marilyn Glenn and subscribe today!

Bonus: Mendolynn Walls includes recipes each week that are applicable to that week's produce. We'll post those recipes to the website soon.

This 'n' That

Atchison has received funding for its Community Garden project! Read the City's press release or contact Clinton McNemee at 913/367-5561 to find out how you can obtain a plot.

The AACSA board has agreed to give a modest donation to the American Indian Relief Council to support its Project Grow effort. The project is focused on gardening self-reliance, and you can read about it here.

Some notable sites we've discussed in recent meetings: Growing for Market, Missouri Vegetable Growers Association, Kansas Rural Center.

We hope to soon have a write-up and photos from the May 5 Art and Soul Farm Festival!

A Letter from Marilyn Glenn, AACSA Co-Coordinator

I'm writing to ask you to consider becoming a member again of CSA and to advertise our upcoming summer season of fresh produce to people you know. We find that "word of mouth" gets the best results.

The board of the AACSA has redesigned the brochure and is making plans for our 5th year. We have been more than pleased with the quality of the produce from our local growers. Those members who pay in full by April 15th will receive a $30 discount. Anyone who recruits new people to become members will receive a $20 check from AACSA.

Between now and June 12th, there is opportunity to buy locally grown sweet potatoes at $0.80/lb from L&R Farms, one of our growers. Call Lanny or Monie Frakes to arrange a pick up time: 816-688-7820 or 816-390-2760.

Free Range eggs are also available this summer by signing a separate contract.

Our CSA would really appreciate it if you would post a notice, with my phone number (913-367-2002), on Facebook and/or Twitter as well as emailing the info to family and friends who might be in Atchison for Tuesday pick ups. The registration form can be printed from our website.

If you need more brochures or have questions, please call me.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Glenn, Co-Coordinator
